Fall's Most Colorful Cosmetics

In a makeup slump? Shake up your fall beauty routine with these on-trend shades

Why should colorful makeup be reserved for spring and summer? This fall, the trend forecast is all about ditching your neutrals for moody, unexpected shades that will breathe life into your beauty routine. Here, your guide to experimenting with colorful makeup in cooler temps.

Sparkle in Emerald Shadow
Up the ante on your typical night-out look by incorporating a rich emerald-green eye shadow into your smoky eye. It's softer than your usual black shadow but just as sexy. And it works with all eye colors -- the cool color complements blue eyes, intensifies green eyes and brings out green and gold flecks in brown eyes.

The shade looks especially fall-ready when paired with a light dusting of golden shadow on the inner third of your eye. To keep the look balanced, take a cue from Rita Ora and pair your emerald smoky eye with lightly bronzed cheeks and a nude lip.

Vamp It Up With Deep Red or Purple Lipstick
One of fall's boldest trends, the vampy lip is surprisingly easy to wear; just check out Lily Collins and her elegant, dark red lip. Keep the rest of your look simple, but polished -- that means groomed brows, an even complexion and (at least) a couple swipes of mascara.

Choosing the best shade for your skin tone is easy. Fair-skinned girls should opt for rich red and berry shades; those with medium skin tones should pick up maroon shades; darker complexions look great in blue-based dark purple hues.

Bat Eye-Catching Navy Lashes
Do you want to make your eyes pop, but can't wield an eye-shadow brush or liquid liner to save your life? Try colored mascara in an eye-enhancing shade for a subtle-but-striking effect. As a rule of thumb, navy mascara flatters all eye colors by making the whites of your eyes look brighter.

Other looks to try? Green and brown eyes pop with purple or burgundy mascara and blue eyes look gorgeous with bronze. If you feel uncomfortable using colorful mascara, you can tone it down by applying your usual black mascara first and applying the colored product only on the tips of lashes.

Flash a Bit of Gold Liner
A gilded cat eye gives every eye color a little extra twinkle. Keep the rest of your eyelid bare, save for a dab of concealer to even out the tone, in order to keep the focus on your shimmering liner. Fair skin tones look amazing in a copper-bronze shade, which helps to define the eye without being harsh; a true gold liner pops against dark skin tones.

Copy Christina Hendricks and do a red lip with a glossy finish, which adds a fall-ready touch and rounds out the look.
