The look: This rich maroon crème embellished with simple yellow-gold studs is an example of the sharp, graphic looks that are trending in nail design. "We're embracing minimalist touches that look super-expensive and opulent," Langston says.

The technique: Paint on two coats of Ruby Do. Just after painting the second coat, grab a gold stud from the kit using a pair of pointed tweezers. Place the stud at the center of each nail, pressing gently to secure it in place. For extra staying power, you can add a dot of nail glue to the back of the stud.

The look: A color-blocked nail, half-nude and half-marigold, accented with metallic seed beads. The lower half of the nail is left bare, a super-chic nail trend that has a hidden benefit. "The negative space ... disguises regrowth, so your mani stays looking fantastic for longer," Langston points out.

The technique: If you have unsteady hands, employ Langston's No. 1 trick for color-blocked nails: "Use painter's tape on the lower half of the nail, which will give you that perfect, straight line," suggests Langston. Paint with two coats of Firey Island on the top half of nails, removing the tape immediately after to keep the line smooth. Take three gold beads from the kit using pointed tweezers, dipping each bead in a bit of nail glue. Apply them in the shape of a triangle just above the bisection.

The look: A nude base with chevron tips in complementary colors -- like navy and lavender -- is one of Langston's favorite new looks for the season. "The color selection at the tip is key," she says.

The technique: Apply two coats of Almost Almond on each nail. Dip the thinnest brush from the tool kit in Dark Huemoor. Placing the brush halfway down the nail, draw a thin line from the side of the nail to the middle of the nail tip. Quickly fill in toward the tip of the nail; the portion you just painted should look like a triangle or half-circle, depending on your nail shape. Repeat this pattern on each nail. Let dry and clean the brush by dipping it in polish remover. Using I Lilac You, make the same shape on the opposite side of the nail, painting so it almost touches the navy triangle. Repeat on each nail.

The look: An emerald green half-moon mani with a naked base and metallic tips. "The luminous green feels even more luxe once it's tipped in gold," Langston says, "and the negative space at the moon is very sexy."

The technique: Apply paper hole reinforcements (the kind you use to patch up binder paper) to the back of your fingers so that the top of the circle covers the lighter "half-moon" at the base of the nail. Apply two coats of On Pines and Needles to the nails above the reinforcements and immediately remove the stickers when finished. Allow polish to dry completely. Then, gently lay another set of reinforcements higher on the nail bed so only the tip of the nail peeks out. Paint the tips with one to two layers of Gilty Party.

The look: A "vampy" ombré nail in shades of crimson. "Keeping the ombré in the same tonal family is a new way to rock ombré," Langston says. "[It] fades from dark merlot to bright red."

The products: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Red My Lips, Branch Out and Clear'd for Takeoff

The tips: Paint two coats of Red My Lips on nails and let dry. Pour a dollop of Branch Out onto a piece of Paper. Dab the tip of a damp wedge sponge (the kind you use to apply foundation) in a generous amount of the polish. Lightly apply it to the upper half of each nail, dabbing outward slowly so the color gradually gets more intense toward the nail tip. Let dry. The finish may be a bit bumpy because of the texture of the sponge, so paint nails with two to three layers of Clear'd for Takeoff.
