13 Unexpected Ways to Wear Gold Makeup

This season, it's all about going for the gold (makeup, that is)

Gold Eyeliner FTW
Makeup artist Lisa Eldridge uses a mixture of rose gold shadow and gilded liner to create this holiday-ready, gold eye makeup look. Line your eyes from inner to outer corner with a golden eyeliner, like Lancome Artliner 24H, $23, in Gold, to get a similarly festive look.

Strobe Your Way to a Golden Glow
Kendall Jenner's otherworldly glow requires some serious highlighting makeup skills (luckily, we've got the strobing tutorial right here). To prep your skin so it glows like an angel, use Deciem Hylamide Finisher Photography Foundation, $21, in Golden Tan, which will add a subtle golden glow to your skin and blur away imperfections -- essentially, you'll look amazing sans Instagram filter. Though it's called foundation, it's more of a skin care step, so you can add your foundation over it if needed.

Then, use a liquid golden highlighter, like Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Illuminator, $39. Apply it wherever the light would naturally hit your face -- down your nose, on your forehead, cheekbones, chin and cupid's bow.

To make your skin look extra angelic (and to set the look so your highlighter doesn't turn into greaseball city), use a fluffy brush to apply a gold powder highlighter over your liquid one. We like Boots No. 7 Shimmer Palette, $14.99, because it comes with multiple shades of gold makeup that can be blended together or worn separately.

Shimmering Gold Eye Makeup
A swipe of gold shadow, like E.L.F. Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow, $3, in Toast across your lid and in the crease of your eye is a pretty, subtle take on the gold makeup trend. Do like Gigi Hadid (words to live by) here and pair it with a subtle black liner, white liner on your lower waterline, and a nude-brown lipstick.

Gold Smoky Eye
The key to this gold eye makeup look is to use multiple shades of gold shadow, like Nars Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow, $29, in Telesto and Himalia. Apply Telesto, a rich gold, over your lid and under your lower lash line. If you want more intense color payoff, apply it wet. Highlight under your brow bone Himalia, a light gold shade.

Metallic Gold Eyebrows
Colorful brows have become somewhat the norm on the runways the past few seasons, but this genius gold version, done by Pat McGrath, stands out among the greens and blues because it manages to look (somewhat) organic and natural. Plus, its a genius way to stand out with your gold makeup when you don't want something expected. To get the same amount of color payoff, try her Gold 001 pigment. If you want to try something a little more subtle, use a liquid glitter eyeliner, like NYX Cosmetics Liquid Crystal Liner, $4.50, in Crystal Gold and use it like you would a brow pencil.
