This may seem counterintuitive, but Reinke says that the richness of half-and-half helps decrease your need for sugar — essentially, adding a splash of the stuff to your coffee will achieve the same effect as dumping in the fat-free milk and sugar packets into your beverage (which at least decreases the amount of refined sugar you're consuming).

"If you love flavored coffee but not sugar, your best bet is an Iced Skinny Flavored Latte which is made with espresso, nonfat milk, the sugar-free syrup of your choice, and ice," says registered dietitian nutritionist Lauren Harris-Pincus, MS, RDN. This beverage contains only 80 calories in 16 ounces, she adds.

The new Mango Dragonfruit Starbucks Refresher is a light and delicious choice — and a grande only contains 90 calories, according to Harris-Pincus. "There's less total sugar, thanks to some stevia in the drink base," she adds.

"It's always a healthy choice to order hot or iced plain coffee," says registered dietitian, Amanda A. Kostro Miller, RD, LDN, a member of the advisory board for Smart Healthy Living. "In doing so, you consume minimal calories."

"This drink is delicious and also gives you a nice mouthfeel with the foam on top," says Miller. "The 16-ounce version of the drink is only 80 calories, so it's a great option to choose," she adds.
