Glowing skin is basically a prerequisite for hitting the red carpet, but how do celebrities always manage to look so good? Thanks in part to social media, it's become less of a secret that there's a full team behind every celebrity's flawless face. Celebs have aestheticians and makeup artists who recommend and apply the best skin-care products in the industry, starting with red carpet facials in the weeks before show time and ending with last-minute touch-ups before they step in front of the flashing cameras.

While a dazzling collection of gowns or a team dedicated to lip gloss application isn't likely in our future, a red-carpet-worthy glow looks good on everyone. We caught up with some of our favorite skin-care experts in the industry to find out just how stars prep themselves for some of the biggest nights in entertainment. After all, the classic red carpet question, "Who are you wearing?" can be just as easily applied to skin care as to clothes. Skin that stays dewy in the red carpet crowd -- and in front of all those flash bulbs -- is a major achievement. Cut to Jane Iredale Hydration Spray, $30, which Rihanna's makeup artist Mylah Morales uses to keep Rih looking fresh. The refreshing spray is best "prior to applying foundation as a way to prep the skin for all day, long-lasting coverage," she says. Morales swears by the Balance formulation of the spray, which contains all natural essential oils like grapefruit, algae and orange peel.

Stars do more than use just mask and moisturize on red carpet day. Regular facials are part of celebrity skin maintenance, says aesthetician Valentina Budnaysky of the Paul Labrecque Salon and Spa. Budnaysky has treated Blunt with the salon's hour-long Bio Sculpt Lift & Firm Facial. It provides "immediate results to brighten, tighten and oxygenate the skin," which makes it perfect right before your next big event. "I recommend receiving treatments beginning four weeks out, coming in once each week leading up to the big day," says Budnaysky. "If you can make it in on the actual day, that's recommended, too," she adds. This treatment also comes with a red carpet price tag: $220 for 60 minutes.

Even when she doesn't have a pregnancy glow, Beyoncé always seems to walk the red carpet with a special radiance. While at least half of her glow must come just from being Bey, according to Sir John, her L'Oreal Paris celebrity makeup artist, there is a process behind amping up his client's skin on red carpet day.

"When you're hitting the red carpet, water-based or mattifying moisturizers are great. I love the L'Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Moisturizer for Oily Skin, $17.99. It's great to prep and prime skin before you add on foundation," he says.

Before show time, Sir John suggests looking for skin care with glycolic acid or treating yourself to a glycolic peel, which helps exfoliate skin and resurface fresh cells. For consistent glowing skin, "a nice at-home daily product is the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Bright Reveal Peel Pads, $19.99. The pads have a 10 percent glycolic complex that helps to give you fresh-looking skin," he says. But steer clear of salt scrubs and french fries before anything involving cameras: "The one thing to avoid is any type of salt or sodium treatments, as they will bloat the face," says Sir John.

Makeup artists know that a knockout beauty look starts with a base of flawless skin. "For Charli's Grammy look, we wanted to keep the skin fresh and vibrant," says her makeup artist Colby Smith. Smith turned to products that you may already have in your arsenal for her client's face-forward look: Everything used was from Kiehl's.

"Skin was the focus, so I started by hydrating and plumping her skin," says Smith. He started with a five-minute Kiehl's Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque, $45, to moisturize the skin, then moved on to Kiehl's Daily Reviving Concentrate, $46, to energize. To prep Charli's eyes for makeup, Smith used Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, $29, before curling her lashes. He finished up with Kiehl's Lip Balm #1, $7, "so her lips could drink up the moisture" during makeup application.
