After months of scrolling through Kylie Jenner's Instagram -- I had the girl's iconic lip looks down to a "T" and knew exactly what colors to go for (obsession pays off). And her beautiful brown lips were just begging to be recreated.
In order to recreate her signature brown lips, I needed to go with a matte finish lipstick to match King Kylie. I opted for the highly pigmented and creamy Nyx Matte Lipstick, $6, in Maison, and puckered up as hard as I could.
While the dramatic matte color made my lips stand out, when I looked in the mirror, I still wasn't satisfied with their miniscule size. *sigh* On to the next one.
As I scrolled through Instagram to find my next iconic Jenner look, I immediately noticed that the queen of a pretty pout isn't scared to rock bold and non-traditional lip colors -- and one particular shade would test my confidence. While a majority of my closet is black, I had never considered debuting black lipstick for fear of (personally) coming out looking goth (it's a high school mentality thing). But for the sake of the pretty pout princess, and my undying curiosity -- I went on the search for the black lipstick that would make me Jenner's twin.
When it came to black lipstick choices, I lucked out. My co-worker was testing black lipsticks in office for a piece that would help other curious ladies like myself ease into the edgy trend. Ultimately, I decided on another matte finish, and went with E.L.F. Moisturizing Lipstick in Black Out, due to its rich pigment and non-drying formula. Taking a deep breath, I painted my lips black, prayed I wouldn't come out looking like Marilyn Manson, and held my breath in preparation for what I would see next.
