A good manicure can range from a solid color to 3D nail art and we've seen it all strut down the runway in past seasons. And while some nail looks require a Picasso-like manicurist, one of this seasons top mani looks can be achieved by even the most amateur nail artists at home. We've seen stripes and negative space nail art before, but this year is all about keeping it linear in the simplest of ways. "Lines are a minimalist yet graphic way to add personality to your manicure," shares Miss Pop, an NYC-based editorial nail artist and runway manicure pro. We talked with Miss Pop to get the low-down on how to swipe this trendy look on our tips this spring.

While black will never go out of style, spring is all about color. Don't be afraid to swipe on a hue that's bright and bold. If you're wondering which shade is best, try starting with this season's must-have colors. "Trending shades for spring are lipstick red and lavender shimmer," says Miss Pop, whose go-to way to rock this trending mani is with a shimmery metallic. "My favorite way to wear this manicure look is to add a thin, horizontal band of metallic." If you're in a pinch for time, try painting a pair of lines on bare nails and top with a shiny topcoat, like this look from Tibi Spring 2018 runway.

This manicure trend isn't just for minimalists. If you like nails that catch every eye, try swiping on multiple lines on one nail or stripe all ten of your fingers. "There is no such thing as too far when it comes to nail art," Miss Pop says. "For a maximalist, I recommend painting your nails with a white or nude polish and adding lines using a variety of different shades." We like the white and red combo used in this look from the Monse Spring 2018 runway.

While this look can easily be done at home, it's important to have the right tools to perfect your lines. "For DIY nail artists at home, the easiest way to get this look is with striping tape or a striper polish," Miss Pop recommends. If you're worried about a steady hand, Miss Pop also suggests that beginners opt for a vertical line over a horizontal line, since they are easier to perfect.
