News that artist Takashi Murakami has teamed with Shu Uemura to produce a collection inspired by Japan's cult favorite anime, "Six Heart Princesses," is surely music to any makeup maven's ears.

The 14-piece collection, which includes lip colors, eyeliners and makeup palettes and will range in price from $24 to $75, will be available exclusively at shuuemura-usa.com.

What prompted the prolific artist to join forces with the makeup company and reinterpret the mischievous "Majokko" characters? "I have collaborated with fashion brands [such as Louis Vuitton] in the past and I have experience extracting the culture of Japanese animation and fusing them into new products," he explained to WWD. "Of my different works, Six Heart Princess is the one that fits best with this collaboration because it is the most animation-oriented project of my many projects. I also wanted to explore the desire of transformation by looking back to the history of princess animation."
