I'll be the first to tell you — I don't spend much time on TikTok. Since I work in digital media, the second I can get off my devices for the day, I do. So I don't spend much time on Instagram, let alone TikTok.
One day, when I happened to finish my to-do list early, I decided to put on my comfy clothes, plop on the couch, and open TikTok for maybe the fifth time ever since I downloaded the app at the beginning of quarantine.
When I did, I was matched with plenty of dance videos, lots of hilarious clips that left me belly-laughing... and, of course, there was the deluge of the "shit you didn't know you needed from Amazon" videos. You know, those dangerous videos that'll send you on a late night shopping spree. Was I going to be able to make it through without pulling out my credit card? (Spoiler alert: No.)
Well, in my defense, it turns out TikTok totally steered me in in the right direction. My impulse buy — the Revlon Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Roller, $14.99 — is a total gamechanger.

Within 36 hours, this beauty arrived in a box at my front door, and I couldn't have been more excited to try it. In the video that I stumbled upon that convinced me to press "Add to Cart," I'd watched some gen Z girl rolling it around her face and basically erasing all her oiliness and shine. And I wanted that to be ME.

In the Amazon listing, this face roller claims it's "like blotting papers, but better," and I'd say that's truly the most accurate description. Made of real volcanic stone, you can pop off the cap, roll it over your complexion, and the stone soaks up excess oil instantly.

I ripped open the box and headed into my bathroom upstairs so I could lean over the sink, get close, and see this baby in action. As I rolled it across my skin — mind you, this is at about 2 p.m. after having my makeup on my combination skin all day — it disappeared all of my midday shine. Like magic — poof! — gone.
I was a little worried that after using this on a complexion that wasn't freshly washed, I'd end up with breakouts or clogged pores, but the beauty of this device is that you can remove the volcanic stone every 2-3 uses (or more often, if you'd like) and wash it with soap and water to remove any makeup, oil, bacteria, etc.
And in a world where sustainability is becoming more and more important, the idea of keeping this tiny little roller in my purse for a midday touch up — instead of going through packages upon packages of blotting paper — just seems to make sense.

Overall, I'm happy to decided to go onto TikTok that day because I truly discovered a product that I'd like to have within arms reach everyday until the end of time (or until my skin decides to be less oily), but... now I'm fully aware that I need to limit my time on the app so I still have enough money to pay my mortgage at the end of the month.
