There's something about fall and winter weather that brings metallic eye shadow to the top of the trend forecast. Maybe it's the looming holiday festivities, which always warrant a touch of sparkle, or the need to add something special to combat the drag of shorter days and colder nights -- or maybe it's just the fact that we've finally reached the time of year when wearing eye makeup is a real option and not an invitation to have it dripping down your face by midday.
Whatever the case, metallic eye shadow is having its moment starting right about now, and with so many product choices and potential looks, there's no reason to restrict yourself to classic silver and gold makeup. Blue, green, black, and more have all been added to the menu, and they're making the case for getting a little weird with it.
So as we move swiftly into the holidays, get acquainted with the season's go-to metallic looks, from the tame to the ... not so much. Eye shadow primers at the ready, please.

Here's your proof that a wholly unintimidating metallic eye makeup look does, in fact, exist: A blend of rich metallic taupe and silver eye shadows swirled together on the lid takes on the look of a shimmery, ultra-flattering neutral -- just use a light hand for sheerer coverage and you're good as gold. (And bronze. And silver.)

As fun as it may be to look at, this eye-catching -- and totally over-the-top -- use of bright green and metallic gold eye shadow is one you'll probably want to skip IRL. (Just a guess.) Still, that doesn't mean the flashy color combo is entirely off limits for the daring. Gold eyebrows optional.
