One of the benefits of eye pencils is that they can be layered with ease. Models at the Carolina Herrera Spring 2018 show were given special treatment with a thick white eye pencil applied to the bottom lashes before a thinner stroke of black. The bit of white acts as a soft highlighter, making eyes look bigger.

There's nothing wrong with sticking with a classic look. The JW Anderson Spring 2018 show demonstrated how pretty a swoosh of black pencil eyeliner across the bottom eye can be, especially when paired with radiant skin and groomed brows.

No pencil sharpener? No problem. To recreate the look at the Lutz Huelle Spring 2018 runway, it's better if the eyeliner is on the duller side because it makes it easier to achieve a thick line. Beginning at the inner corner on the lower lash line, draw a stroke to the outer corner. The key to the wide-awake look is to line just under the waterline.

Look closely and you'll see that there is just the faintest hint of black eye pencil on the waterline. It's the softest touch but it does make a difference. Choose a waterproof pencil, like L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner, $8.99, because it's smudge resistant, waterproof and suitable for use on the waterline.
