Bored with your current hairstyle? Salcedo says that clients who most often ask for the shag haircut are women who want to switch up their day-to-day routine. "It's for clients who want to spice up their look," he says. "This haircut makes a bold statement of, 'Hey, look at me. I'm confident!'"

Roszak prefers this style to look as effortless as possible. To get that #wokeuplikethis vibe down pat, she recommends using a mousse, like L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Volume Inject Mousse, $4.99, to add more texture and volume to hair.

Salcedo also loves Danish model Freya Beja's shag haircut -- a combination of rock 'n' roll meets beachy waves. To get that look, Salcedo says to flip your hair upside down and blow-dry the roots for extra volume, then dry it straight. "Throw some soft waves randomly through the hair to bring out that texture from your haircut," he says. "Bedhead is the look to go for."

When heading to the salon, make sure your shag haircut is at least chin length, because it's layered mainly through the crown -- you don't want that area to get too short, lest you end up looking like a Kate Gosselin (pre-extensions) impersonator. According to Salcedo, this haircut looks best when it's collarbone-length or longer.

Suki Waterhouse's long shag haircut is giving us serious mane envy. Use a texturizing product, like Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine, $24,, on damp hair and let it air dry to get a similarly disheveled, sexy texture.
