Christopher says to think of your nighttime skin care routine as a "health ritual for your skin" and a way to physically and energetically "remove the day" (i.e. oil, sweat and makeup) from your skin. Now is the time to apply your heavier, more concentrated products in preparation for them to be absorbed while you sleep.

Like you did in the morning skin care routine, apply your toner to a cotton swab and smooth over the face to remove any additional product and prep the skin for better absorption of the active ingredients in the next skin care steps.

According to Christopher, this is also a good time to choose serums with more actives like vitamin A (i.e., retinols) that have a deeper effect on your skin while you sleep.
