Thanks to Caitlin Jenner and TV shows like Amazon's Transparent, the transgender community is receiving more mainstream exposure than ever. But that doesn't mean we understand every trans woman's story.

There are innumerable ways for a trans woman to go about her male-to-female transition. Some undergo hormone therapy, facial feminization or sexual reassignment surgery; some desire to "pass" in public as having been born biologically female. But there are also plenty of trans women for whom these things are not a priority. Femininity for trans women, just like femininity at large, does not have just one definition.
