Pretty Compacts -- to Use or Not to Use?
- Posted by Kristen on July 25, 2008 at 03:59PM
Lancome's fall collection hits stores this month and I was lucky enough to score the gorgeous Poudre Elephant Teint (see photo above). It's a shimmery powder bronzer that has an elephant emblazoned on it. I love these gorgeous compacts, but I always feel bad about using them -- it always mucks up the pretty design in the powder. Well, I bit the bullet and decided to give it a swirl and dust it on my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. It gave my fair skin a toasty golden glow, but do watch out for the red blanket area -- it is highly pigmented and will give you more of a sunburn effect -- ouch!
The Perfect Brushes and Why To Steal Your Guy's Razor

The 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic blog recently posted about makeup artist Molly Stern's favorite brushes for every part of your face. It's a great read if you've ever hesitated before reaching for a brush, wondering if you're using the right one (something I still do occasionally). Stern talks about them in terms of Shu Uemura brush numbers, but you can easily use that as a reference and buy the same shapes from other brands. Check it out.
Eva Longoria Parker's New Bob Haircut
- Posted by Sarah on July 24, 2008 at 05:12PM
Have you seen Eva Longoria Parker's cropped cut? She debuted it on July 21 at the announcements of the ALMA Awards nominees. It's a great take on the bob haircut that's been sweeping Hollywood. With the deep side part and side-swept bangs she still stands out among the Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham look-alikes. What do you think of the new look? Do you like it better than her old 'do (below)? Oh and Kristen wants to know if you think she should go even shorter with her hair. What do you think?
August 6 Is National Fresh Breath Day

I couldn't help but laugh when I found this out; shouldn't we strive to have fresh breath every day? Regardless, we can use this "holiday" to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy and beautiful mouth. To celebrate, make an appointment with your dentist if you haven't been there in a while and check out reader reviews of toothpastes and mouthwashes and our roundup of the best teeth whiteners. Happy Fresh Breath Day!
Look Hot and Rock the Vote
- Posted by Sarah on July 23, 2008 at 05:17PM
Stila just released a limited-edition red lipstick to help promote the Rock the Vote organization. They'll be donating 25 percent of the proceeds from the first 500 lipsticks sold to Rock the Vote and will have a link for people to register to vote on their site. Check it out if you need to register -- or if you're just looking for a new red lip color.

Hair Powder Warning!
- Posted by Charli on July 17, 2008 at 04:59PM
Dry, itchy scalp can be caused by a myriad of things, but I've noticed that the latest hair powder I've been using, Stila Jade Blossom Hair Refresher, may be a culprit. While it smells amazing, it tends to leave me with dry scalp after repeated use. (I use it about two or three times a week.) If you have this problem, I've discovered some solutions:
Meeting Carmindy
- Posted by Sarah on July 21, 2008 at 04:28PM
You may have seen Charli's post below about makeup artist Carmindy (from TLC's "What Not to Wear") traveling around showing people the new Natural Beauty line of cosmetics she created with Sally Hansen. Last week, Charli and I went to one of the Los Angeles stops to check out the products, which Carmindy demonstrated on my face (meaning I got a much-needed touch-up for my Friday night out).
Masked By Makeup
- Posted by Kristen on July 16, 2008 at 05:38PM
It's been a couple weeks since my Good Morning America Now segment and I just can't stop thinking about how much makeup television journalists wear. I feel for them because I got a taste of amount they wear when I walked into the ABC studio "camera ready" for my segment. I was to receive hair and makeup touch-ups only, but when the makeup artist got hold of me she immediately removed the concealer, foundation and powder combo I had applied generously that morning. In place of it, she left what looked like a mask of thick foundation. It was scary in real life, so pancake-y and aging. I must admit though, my skin looked pretty good on TV (yet one more reason to realize that celebrities are just like us; they just wear A TON more makeup).
Do You Have Hair Issues?
- Posted by Sarah on July 22, 2008 at 05:00PM
A recent Aussie survey found that 83 percent of women are confused about which products to use for what purpose and 74 percent have a love-hate relationship with their hair. It's practically an epidemic!
