The best way to cut down redness is to use a green colored primer. Smashbox has a great one for this purpose. This does not do the job.

It is true that this is yellow and not green, but it does contain sulfur which helps to actively work against blemishes. It does help cut down on redness without being too heavy. It works especially well if applied over primer but under the foundation. It is a little light on coverage, though.
