I was frustrated by the look of my skin the other day. It wasn't horrible--it just look tired. I knew what to do. I whipped out my Queen Helene "Mud Pack" and indulged in about twenty minutes of "me" time. The mud in the mask is kaolin, an ancient beauty remedy which has more than stood the test of time. In fact, it is named for the place where it originated--Kaoling Hill in the Kiangsi provi...read morence of China. Kaolin is revered for its ability to draw out impurities and toxins and rid skin of excess oil and pollutants. I smear this generously over my face, neck and decolletage, avoiding the tender eye area. Once it is dry, it may be a bit messy to remove with warm, wet washcloths, but my skin is beyond clean and super-soft, with a radiant glow that makes me look like I just took a brisk walk in the cold. this is a cheaper drug store brand but I trust it above all others, the mask drys quick and when you wash it off your skin looks like you just got done at the spa and keeps a fresh glow days after you've used it. Could have been perfect :(
When I saw that this mask had kaolin, I was all over it! Unfortunately, my excitement for the kaolin overlooked the rest of the ingredients, including: citronellol, geraniol, linalool and fragrance. These are all components of fragrance that can exacerbate allergies and cause skin irritation that can occur both superficially on the surface and even below, contributing to the breakdown of collagen....read more Fragrance is the enemy of clear, youthful skin and I try to avoid it whenever possible. However, I used the mask against my better judgement. I wasn't crazy about the color; it was a bit off-putting and reminded me of the color of a plastic doll, sort of a fake peachy tone. It also started tingling my skin within the first few minutes; tingling does not mean the product is working. It means that there is something in the product that is causing a mild irritation. (Similar to an "itch;" an itch is a form of pain at the lowest level.) If you have any questions about fragrance, I would check out the articles on Paula's Choice website and their You Tube channel. I will stick with the plain mud mask made by Boots. This is available at most Target stores for around $7. Masks are not a requirement for a skincare regime; if your skin is looking a bit dull or lacklaster, I would definitely incorporate an AHA or BHA exfoliant to help with that, but let's be honest, sometimes it is just fun to give yourself a facial. :) Oh, one more thing - there aren't any ingredients in this mask for anti-aging. :(This review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 3 people said helpful
