Fancy, they're not. We don't adore the flimsy, disposable plastic cases that protect these basic pans of shadow. Buying a refillable compact to house shadows bugs, too, but the option appeals to environmentally friendly types and those who want to customize their palettes. Highly pigmented, fairy-like shades (mostly shimmery, some matte) appeal to the Audrey Hepburns of the world. Color feels soft and looks creamy but smudges and creases easily.

Gorgeous colors but ...
I own probably a dozen Stila shadows. Some of the matte colors are a little chalky. The shimmery colors are gorgeous (I especially love Diamond Lil) and super smooth in texture, but the colors get muddy when you try to blend them and there is a bit of fallout. If you only plan on using one shade as an all over color, or using a matte shadow with it, or a shadow from another brand, you'll have more...read more success. It is a little annoying that you have to buy a separate case for them, or just leave them in the little plastic clamshell containers, but I kind of like how easy it is to change my palettes! The pans are nice and large and hold a lot of product, and are a decent value. Review: Stila Eye Shadow Pan

I really liked stila eye shadows. I got a trio set as a gift, and was pleasantly surprised. The shimmery ones look very nice, definitely not cheap, because the shimmery particles are quite fine. The pigmentation is amazing, no need to apply dozens of layers, they stay on rather well too. The purple one I have looks amazing on my hazel eyes- brings out all the green!
