This Is Not Your Grandma's Smoky EyeThe classic night-out eye gets a serious makeover |
Shades of Gray Even though this matte gray smoky eye is extremely subtle, it's one of our favorite new looks. Instead of starting with dark shadow and blending upwards, makeup artist Diane Kendal suggests choosing two shades of gray and using the lighter color on the lid. We like the pale gray in the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Quad in Mystery, $59. Then, add a medium gray like Nars Eye Paint in Transvaal, $25, from above the crease up to the brows. "It should look like a shadow over the eyes," Kendal says. With this look, you can skip mascara entirely. Finish it off with a thin line of eyeliner like CoverGirl Ink It Eyeliner, $5.99, only along the top lash line.
