"I have no look, just flat hair with zero style. I need to de-frump," said Jennifer, 44, whose hair really wasn't as shocking as some of the hairstyles we've seen.

The color
Jennifer's hair is going to be a bold, Marcia Cross red, courtesy of Jason Backe, master colorist at Ted Gibson Salon and color director for Clairol. Tip: Before you dye, be guided by your skin tone. Jennifer's hint of natural strawberry gives Backe the go-ahead to take it to the next level -- a true red.

The trick to holding on to your red
"Red fades the fastest, but you can maintain it at home easily," Backe says. Dye only the roots, leaving the length alone. Try a medium reddish blonde for a look like Jennifer's. Have a salon balance the color every three months. Between colorings, use a color-protecting shampoo and conditioner.

The skin
To neutralize Jennifer's reddish undertones, Turnbow starts by applying a primer (try Fresh Face Primer, $30). Then she applies a tinted moisturizer and concealer (under the eyes) to finish smoothing and brightening her complexion. Do you need a primer? Pick one of the best.
