TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.8* Why: One woman says, "I tried this and it ripped my skin to shreds. Granted, I have very sensitive skin, but I did what was recommended and started out every other day, working my way up to using it consistently. I was OK for a few days, then started to notice flaky patches. Within two more days, my face was literally BLEEDING." Another reader says, "this product is nothing like they said. It made my skin dry and tight. Beware folks -- this is a rip-off!!" One woman says, "I used Meaningful Beauty for one year. Did not show any improvements whatsoever. I canceled my membership."
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.8* Why: Women say, "what a hoax. The last thing I wanted was an expensive product that made me break out. That's exactly what I got with this. It moisturized, I guess, but other than that [it] just gave me crappy skin. NO THANK YOU. I'm so mad at this stuff, I can't even talk anymore." Another reader says it "felt great upon application but after about half-a-week I started to get a splotchy, red, rash-like patch on my face." Another explains, "this has an awesome smell and when you try it in the store you will for sure want to put this on your face and wait for good skin to surface, but alas it is a waste of time and a good smell does not refine the skin at all or brighten it."
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.8* Why: Readers say, "I'd seen the ads for Garnier and was certainly interested in a product that would do everything it proposed: fade age spots, moisturize, help wrinkles with a high SPF -- unfortunately, no [such] luck. I used this product for six weeks and [saw] no difference. I'm still on the hunt for an anti-aging [product] that actually does what it professes." Another reader agrees saying, "this product is a little greasy and feels as though it is sitting on top of your skin rather than being absorbed by it. I broke out a lot more when using it and did not notice any of the advertised benefits."
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.8* Why: Readers says this is "not a winner." One reader says, "maybe my wrinkles are too deep or something but this just doesn't work on me. Only remarks I got were from my husband and son who asked what the shiny white stuff was between my eyebrows. I did keep using it, but nothing happened." Another reader says, "after one to two months of use, I couldn't tell any difference in the lines on which I was using it. I even used it in conjunction with other products from the same line. I wouldn't recommend purchasing it." Other readers have "sent [it] back and [are] waiting for a refund."
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.6* Why: Readers say this product is "too much $$$ and does nothing." One woman says, "I tried this cream on "Allure"'s recommendation but it basically did nothing but lessen my pocketbook -- don't bother." Another says, "I was hoping this cream would tighten the skin on my neck (which is a bit loose due to weight loss), but after using an entire jar I haven't even seen temporary results." One woman says, "one day I woke up to notice that I have 'rings' around my neck. I feel like a friggin' Sequoia tree. Anyway, in a desperate attempt to correct some of this and to fight against future wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity, I shelled out $60 for this cream. Yes, it is very emollient and makes my skin very soft, but ALL of my creams do that. As far as helping reduce visible signs of lines and firm your skin ... NADA."
Are you afraid of aging? It's OK to say yes. It's a legitimate fear for women and men today for more than one reason.
First, thanks to our deteriorating economy, Medicare budgets have been seriously slashed. And second, thanks to global warming and pollution, wrinkles, lines and spots are showing up even earlier. This second factor is why we all continuously spend a couple bucks (OK hundreds -- don't judge) on anti-aging skin care products. We're desperate to hold on to our youth.
And while some products really do reduce fine lines and diminish age spots, many of the potions and creams available are as good as a smoke screen for a bad magic show. And when these anti-aging products masquerade as our friends, making grandiose claims of turning back time on our face, but don't follow through, we get really upset.
Well, to help save you from getting hurt by these products that don't deliver, we're here to share a list of the anti-aging items our readers have tried, tested and rejected. Check them out and be sure you don't spend another dime on a lying, ahem, disappointing anti-aging skin care product ever again.
