As a beauty editor I've swiped hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of lipsticks in pursuit of perfection. And along the way, I've developed pretty lofty (read: nearly unattainable) expectations. An amazing lipstick should last from my first cup of coffee through evening cocktails. It should be incredibly pigmented and never drying. Oh, and it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Though this sounds like a tall order, the answer to my lipstick wish list recently crossed my desk.
Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick, $4.99, is a lipstick-lover's dream come true -- in one ridiculously affordable package. The formula packs a ton of pigment, feels comfortable and immediately dries to a stunning matte finish. It wears all day long without budging a millimeter. When I apply it first thing in the morning, I have no doubt it'll still be intact when bedtime rolls around. It's also a breeze to apply. Its applicator is shaped a little like a Barbie foot (hear me out), which allows it to perfectly hug the contours of my lips for precise, mess-free application. Plus, I feel like a boss in Missy and Fierce, the lipstick's ferocious bright crimson shade.
So has this drugstore lipstick achieved perfection? It's pretty darn close. --Mary Squillace

My secret is out: I have scalp psoriasis -- and I've been dealing with it for years. It makes my head itch like crazy and causes a buildup of scaly patches that leaves me with insane dandruff. When flare-ups are particularly bad, my scalp flakes off in sheets. Somehow, being a beauty editor makes the skin condition particularly mortifying. It's not exactly something I want celebrity stylists to witness when they offer to do my hair. So usually I don't let them.
For nearly a year, I stopped going to the hair salon. I let my color grow out and stopped blow-drying my strands, hoping the minimalist routine would chill out my scalp. I tried every dandruff shampoo that crossed my desk; nothing was cutting it.
Then, at the drugstore, I spotted this bad boy -- MG217 Psoriasis Shampoo, made specifically for psoriasis sufferers. With 3 percent coal tar, it's no joke, and I was hesitant to buy it. It's not the first coal tar shampoo I've tried, so I had little hope of it working.
In a matter of weeks, my psoriasis symptoms subsided. I was no longer clawing at my head or surreptitiously brushing flakes from my shoulders. Fast-forward a few months, and I'm still symptom-free. Yes, it makes your head smell like a Sharpie. And, yes, you'll need a good conditioner to keep your strands silky. But my scalp psoriasis is gone. I've been able to return to the hair-styling products I love (I've missed you, Oribe) and my blow-dryer. And, next month, I may even visit my colorist. --Jill Provost

I love taking showers. They are my daily, relaxing me-time that I oh-so look forward to. Because products can either make or break my shower, let's just say I'm a little picky when it comes to body wash. For me, the best ones moisturize, but don't make me break out. It's also imperative that they smell good. Recently, I came across Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Yogurt Body Wash, $7.49, and I'm hooked.
The product foams into an ultra-luxurious lather -- a small amount goes a long way. The delicious, yogurt fragrance transforms my shower into a relaxing, vanilla-scented haven. Aveeno's yogurt body wash also contains natural ingredients like oatmeal to nourish my skin; causing me to emerge from the shower baby-soft.
These days, I've even been able to skip the body lotion (though this line also makes a good one). So-long to my dry, itchy, winter-ravaged skin -- all that remains is a delicate vanilla aroma and soft, smooth skin. --Hannah Savin

Having grown up in the Midwest, I know there's pretty much nothing worse than chapped lips -- especially in the negative-degree winter months. The blistering cold opens up doors (literally, the wind is that strong in Minnesota) for chapped, angry lips, and for us Northerners, it's not uncommon to have a lip balm stashed in every pocket and handbag compartment for when the cold strikes. Having tried hundreds of lip balms in my life (high-end and drugstore), you can guess I'm more than a little picky about them. Nivea Lip Butter Cocoa Butter, $2.99, meets all my requirements, and then some.
First and foremost, the scent alone is to die for. The sweet cocoa aroma is accompanied by a smooth buttery texture, which melts into chapped lips with soothing ease. While the lip butter smells divine, it doesn't come with a synthetic, chemically taste, unlike some flavored and heavily scented lip balms. The real star quality though? The lip butter is infused with supermoisturizing shea butter and almond oil, which instantly hydrate dry skin and leave lips looking luscious and full. Not to mention the butter's ability to withstand howling winds by acting as a hydrating buffer.
As for winter go-tos, this lip balm is a must. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Stark family used it in-between makeout sessions in the North.

It can take a lot of effort to look effortless. (Case in point: No-makeup makeup that requires approximately 20 steps.) As someone who is always on the cusp of being late, the products in my daily routine need to make me look put together with the least possible amount of work on my part. I have my makeup routine down, but my hair is always a problem. Its stick-straight, fine texture resists even the most beloved salt sprays. So I either pull my hair back (which I hate), or take the time to curl it. After lamenting my problems to a stylist, she recommended I try Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray, $39.
The obvious: It smells ahhhamzing, like all Oribe products (no need to put on fragrance). The product comes out a little wet, so when you spray it on dry hair you have a few moments to scrunch for extra texture. The formula doesn't weight down hair or make it crunchy, and it's infused with a blend of oils and extracts to nourish hair and protect it from UV rays. Bonus: it also makes hair very shiny.
Unlike other texture sprays, this one can be used on either wet or dry hair. I normally spray it on my hair when it's damp and let it air dry in the car on my commute. When I arrive at my office, I have tousled, beachy waves that make me look like I've got my sh*t together -- even if I've just battled traffic on the 405 and rush-sneaked into my office five (okay, 10) minutes late. --Allie Flinn
