Create a morning routine

Since there's no distinction between "work" and "home," getting started on your day can be something of a challenge. For a traditional office job, the ritual of getting dressed and driving to work mentally and physically prepares you for work. When you're working from home? Not so much.

Luckily, you can still create your own morning routine that will prepare you to work. It can simple as be making a cup of coffee, getting dressed, or going for a jog to fully wake you up — whatever works for you.

Get dressed

One of the perks of working remotely is working in your PJs. Isn't that the most comfortable thing in the world?

Unfortunately, it's not for everyone... while some people might be able to successfully work in a fluffy robe, it's not a skill that we all share. Not to sound too doom and gloom, but staying in your pajamas all day can lead to slacking off... after all, it's so easy to get back in bed for a quick nap! With that in mind, it's usually better to take a shower and wear some simple work clothes before you sit down at your desk. As mentioned in the previous slide, this can be part of your morning routine that will prepare you for the day.

Have a dedicated office space

Where you work at home plays a huge role in your productivity. If you work on your bed, you'll probably fall asleep. If you work in front of the TV, you're basically setting yourself up for an unplanned Netflix marathon.

Having a work desk that's a healthy distance from your bed, TV, and kitchen will help you focus on your work better. Also, having a designated office will create a separation from work and home, something very important to establish as a freelancer. You may also decorate your home office with inspirations and encouragements that will help you hustle better.

Use a planner

Things can get quickly confusing and disorganized when you work from home, so it's really important to have a planner that will guide you through the week. It should list all your tasks, deadlines, appointments, and meetings so you'll be able to manage your schedule better.

Avoid distractions

Obviously, if you want to get things done, you should avoid distractions at all costs. Distractions may include house chores that all of a sudden seem so enticing to do, or your super duper cute furry friend that needs another cuddle session.

If possible, schedule your house chores before or after your work hours, and put your pet in a different room so their puppy adorable eyes won't take your attention. Letting your family and friends know that you can't be bothered during certain times of the day is a must so they'll know to give you the time and space you need.
