The beauty industry is seemingly ever-changing. In addition to new products being introduced to the market every day, newer and improved ingredients are being tested and used to help treat a myriad of conditions from hair loss and thinning to uneven skin tone and premature aging. But one area that’s garnering the most attention recently is the quality and safety of the ingredients in the beauty products we use on our hair and body. This is important, especially considering the fact that federal law loopholes allow certain toxic ingredients in the formulas of cosmetics that can cause a variety of harmful effects.
If you're like me, growing up in the late '90s and early 2000s meant you weren't ready to leave the house until you embellished yourself head to toe with a little glitter gel. You know, the colorful pots or roller tubes full of the candy-scented, glittery goo. As an adult, I still have an affinity for anything glittery and am always looking for ways to work it into my day-to-day looks, going-out attire and, of course, Halloween costumes.
When you've spent a lot of effort on your fashion ensemble and makeup, the final touch is to make sure that you smell as amazing as you look. Whether you're searching for a new signature scent or planning to try the best perfumes of the year, there's no denying the fact that a lovely fragrance can give you an extra boost of confidence as you go about your day. But if you find yourself spritzing every few hours, it's probably time to rethink how you apply perfume. Check out these hacks to learn how you can make the scent last all day.
We all have our favorite perfumes and fragrances and probably even have a signature scent. From warm notes to fruity accents, our go-to stores are filled with smells that we have always loved. But have you ever wanted to smell different? Maybe you want the smell of freshly cut grass or caviar for a change. No? Neither did we, but these companies thought otherwise. Check out these fragrances that sound so outrageous, you may just be tempted to try them out.
Most fragrances are marketed specifically to either men or women, which often prevents people from trying perfumes they may potentially love for fear of breaking gender norms. Perhaps you are a woman who doesn't like powdery florals or other classic "feminine" scents. Or a man who doesn't like traditional wood, leather or other typically "masculine" scents. Fragrance is such a personal thing. What smells good to you (or on you) differs greatly from one person to the next.
We've seen how our favorite celebrities rock out with their tattoos — from Miley Cyrus' small arm tats to Rihanna's inspiring chest tattoo. Whether it's by the shoulder, behind the ear, or on the wrist, one thing is clear: Body art is cool. That said, it's also very permanent. Yes, lasering technology is getting better, but it's still enormously expensive (not to mention painful).
Let's face it, scent is one of the major motivators when it comes to purchasing beauty products. If something is aesthetically pleasing or smells good, we're more likely to want to buy it. Lately, we've been seeing scent trends in beauty from watermelon and coconut to classics like lavender. Rose-scented beauty products have been around forever and are also having a moment right now. What was once thought of as a cloying, grandma-esque scent is no longer. By pairing the timeless floral fragrance with other scents, it creates new and exciting varieties that are younger and more fun. Rose itself is chock-full of antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, so it's great for acne- and redness-prone skin. If you love the floral fragrance, read ahead for some of our favorite rose-scented beauty products.

I guess you could say I'm a health and fitness buff. I spent my adolescent years unhappy with my body, so as an adult I decided to do something about it. For the last decade, I've committed myself to eating healthy, exercising and trying to live a life of moderation (not deprivation) in order to become the best version of myself. In addition, I'm always up for trying the latest and greatest fitness classes and healthy living services. When I recently passed Shape House, touted as an urban sweat lodge, I knew I had to try it.
Have you heard of cupuacu? The hard-to-name ingredient (pronounced coo-poo-wah-soo) comes from the fruit of an Amazon-dwelling tree. A relative of cacao, cupuacu produces a pod containing delicious pulp and seeds. The fruit, reminiscent of chocolate and pineapple, is used in a variety of South American delicacies, while the seeds are used to extract cupuacu butter and oil.
Alas, summer can't last forever. The days are already getting shorter and our beach trips are numbered. It won't be long before we're packing away flip-flops and attempting to get a few extra wears out of our jean shorts and mini dresses by transitioning them with tights and boots. As we prepare ourselves for the inevitable deep freeze, our bronze goddess tans (real or faux) will fade.
Oenophiles rejoice, August 28 is National Red Wine Day! Let's raise a glass — of Cab, Pinot, Zinfandel, Malbec — or whatever wine tickles your fancy. Like other fermented products, wine is chock-full of heart-healthy antioxidants (in moderation of course) as well as resveratrol, a polyphenol found in the grape skins that helps protect the fruit from illness or injury. Resveratrol (when ingested) can lower blood pressure as well as help to lower one's risk of developing heart disease or cancer — it has an anti-aging and anti-pollution effect when used topically in skincare. (Like we needed another excuse to enjoy a glass of wine!)

If you're a fan of homeopathic medicine, you've probably heard of arnica — if not, listen up. Arnica, also known as arnica montana or wolf's bane, is a yellow flowering plant from the sunflower and daisy family that is native to Europe. It's commonly used in homeopathy to treat a large array of conditions. Arnica can be used topically or taken orally, but to do so, it must be diluted because consuming too much can be toxic.
How many times have you seen a beauty blogger rave about a new product and instantly purchased it — only to find out later that it didn't live up to the hype? With beauty brands constantly vying to own the next breakthrough product or technology, many innovations seem too good to be true (and sometimes are).
If you're someone who has tattoos or is ready to get one, you're probably familiar with the struggle of knowing what you want inked on your body but not knowing where to put it. There are quite a few factors to consider, but the real decision maker? Figuring out how often you want it to be shown. If you're someone who wants to have the option of hiding your tattoo — sans makeup — when you need to but also letting it shine when the time is right, a thigh tattoo may be a good option for you.
Attention all art history buffs: Have you ever entertained the notion of inking yourself with a fine art-inspired tattoo design? Rest assured, they're out there — and they're amazing.
Ah, Trader Joe's: A health-conscious haven where you can buy everything from some of the most sophisticated wines and cheeses to the latest-and-greatest health food crazes to...beauty products? Turns out, the popular grocery destination also has an ever-expanding beauty section, which, like their food, happens to be natural (and very affordable). Plus, as with their food selection, you can count on TJ's to stay on top of all the latest beauty crazes and fun seasonal offerings (pumpkin spice, anyone?).
